Time to wake up...

The day that you wake up, look around and realize that you owe $300,000 on your home, $25,000 on your vehicle, you can't grow a tomato, your children only have the skillset of a PlayStation, you have $200 in savings and you don't even have the supplies you need for hurricane season... it's a scary day.

The scariest part are there are people who will never wake up and realize that buying a home in this economy is insane, no pickup truck is worth $95,000 if you're using it properly and like Christmas- hurricane season is the same time every year and yet they will have absolutely no supplies when one heads this way.

But for those of you who do wake up it can be scary. But don't let fear overtake you or bury your head in the sand and pretend like nothing is happening around you. Most importantly- don't let others make you feel "crazy". The world has changed and the one we live in is so unpredictable. You have to straighten your back and start taking care of you and your family. Don't get lost in the noise that will inevitably surround you. Like I said in my last blog- just start. Five cans a week, more if you can. Learn skills- how to can, how to make bread from scratch, how to make biscuits, how to raise animals and process them.

I look at how far our farm has come since I woke up. My sons have skills now they never thought they would have. They know how to care for animals, process birds and even basic vetting.  My husband knows more about gardening than he probably ever thought he'd want to know. He can tell you what fertilizer a weeping tomato plant needs. And don't get  me started on his corn growing skills.

We were called crazy behind our backs and even laughed at by family. I've literally had someone roll their eyes at me and laugh when I have told them I am a farmer. None of it bothers me. I look around and say- I'm doing the best I can to ensure my family will be taken care of if anything happens. So, if you're waking up- You can do this. You will do this. Just start. For those of you who have been awake- keep going, you're doing great.

Remember even Noah was a prepper and was laughed at.

Stay busy y'all!
