UFO's, Train Wrecks, Balloons, Shootings... and so much more.
on I am a homesteader. I am by no means an "End of the World" prepper.
Homesteading comes with some prepping. Do I can a lot of veggies and have backups for my backups? Yes. Do I store and stock up so that I don't have to rely on the government or public supply chain? Yes.
With everything going on in the world, why wouldn't people stock up on essentials while they can? You don't have to have a garden or a canner to ensure you and your family have food on the table. It seems like everyday there is something new happening in the world that ultimately effects us, the consumer. Food prices are ridiculous and they are not coming down. No matter what the government or the news is telling you, it is not coming down- ever. It's easy to explain why they are not ever going to come down- because we are paying it. Eggs are $6 a dozen on average and people are still paying it to have eggs because we need them. Here's a prime example- Feminine products, TP and diapers have continued to rise in price since before the "Panorama"- why, because people HAVE TO HAVE IT. I'm not wiping with a rag and they know it.
So, if you're not a farmer or a homesteader or even a prepper- what do you do? 5 cans. That's it. 5 cans. Every week when you go to the grocery store pick up 5 cans of something you can put back. It doesn't have to be expensive. Say the local sales ad has green beans on sale for $0.50 a can- grab 5 extra cans. That's $2.50 extra to your food bill but you're putting back green beans that will be good for a couple years if something happens. Kroger's puts Campbell's chunky soup on sale for 5 for $5 sometimes- grab 5 cans and put them in the back of your pantry. Do I want to eat chunky soup everyday- No. But if I get hungry enough you can bet your tail I will. Think in long term- dry beans, rice, pasta- those items last a long time on the shelf and are filling. On our farm- we keep no less that 50 pound of dry beans of all kinds at all time. Rice will last forever in a mylar bag and we buy it by the 50 pound bags and store it. It isn't a realistic goal to have if you are just starting- but start- 5 cans a week.
History repeats itself and there is no telling what is going to happen next- but all we can do is be prepared the best way we possibly can be. Listen to your granny's and great aunt Pete's. They know what they're talking about.
So y'all get busy, stay busy and make sure your family is taken care of.
